Born to parents who are both Christians and musicians, Junior was raised in Vieux-fort, Saint Lucia. He first began learning music and playing the piano at a young age. At age seven, he stopped formal classes, but continued practicing at home learning to play songs from the Worship and Service Hymnal.
At about age ten, Junior then took up his father's guitar began teaching himself to play using his dad's music books as a guide. Together with the books, he also use to play along with vinyl records which also enabled him to develop his skills. He continues to do this for the next three years.
At the age 14, he was enrolled at the St. Lucia School of Music, southern center, under the tutelage of Mr. Gary Sankar. He progressed to the point where he became a part time tutor along side his tutor at the school, eventually becoming the guitar tutor for the center when his tutor left. He currently is still a tutor at the school.
With the assistance of his tutor, he was able to do grades one to five of the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music in Classical Guitar. After Mr. Sankar left, Junior went on to pursue and succeed at grades six and eight ABRSM practical exams in Classical Guitar.
Along the way, he has made some accomplishments both for himself and country. In 1995, he and two other musician friends who were at the St. Lucia School of Music attended an Inter Caribbean Classical Guitar Competition where St. Lucia was well represented. Performing in two different categories, St. Lucia claimed two first places and a second; Junior was one who got a first place in his category. He has also performed at some local events over the years including St. Lucia Jazz Festival where he played for Heart and Soul; St. Lucia School of Music Choir South and Celebrate Jesus; a praise and worship service where Christians from aorund the island come together to give praise to God. |
